The Johnny G Scholarship(s) will be awarded to a Gibraltar High School senior (or graduate age 21 or younger at the time of application) with a demonstrated financial need.  The applicant’s parents must be single, divorced from each other, separated, widowed or deceased.  This is a non-renewable scholarship for educational expenses at an accredited 2- or 4-year post-secondary school.
"Johnny's family and friends are honored to carry on his memory through the Johnny G Scholarship.  We hope you'll join us in supporting this important effort."

Johnny G Scholarship
The Johnny G Scholarship was founded in 2002 in memory of Johnny L. Gonzales by his family and friends.  Johnny was a fixture of the northern Door County community and loved by many.  He was a graduate of Gibraltar High School and worked in the Door County restaurant business most of his (all too short) life.

Johnny spent 20 years at the Sister Bay Bowl, until starting his own restaurant "Johnny G.'s" in downtown Sister Bay.  He was the father of four children, Jordan, Dana, Lauren and Will Gonzales.  He played County League baseball, softball, broomball, golf and loved to fish – no matter the season.

Johnny fished for walleye at midnight in July and northern pike through the ice in January.  He passed away in March 2001 doing what he loved – ice fishing – at the age of 41.  He wanted the best for his kids and we hope that in his memory this scholarship will provide opportunities to many graduates of Gibraltar for years to come.
